Bronx NHS Tops $3 Million in Funds Returned to the Community in 2024!

In a remarkable achievement for 2024, the Bronx Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) has returned over $3 million to the community through its free tax preparation services. With 1,791 tax returns filed at no cost to residents, Bronx NHS has brought back a total of $3,151,848 to Bronx County.

Bronx NHS is one of more than a dozen free tax preparation providers in the area, contributing significantly to the New York City Free Tax Preparation initiative. This program aims to:

  1. Increase the availability of high-quality free tax preparation services.

  2. Ensure eligible New Yorkers are claiming valuable tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the New York City Child Care Tax Credit (NYC CCTC).

  3. Use tax time as an opportunity for low and moderate-income New Yorkers to build assets and improve financial health.

Having served the Bronx community for seven years, Bronx NHS has assisted over 10,500 clients, resulting in more than $17.5 million in total tax returns. This free service saves residents an average tax preparation fee of $175, amounting to an additional $1,875,500 in savings over the years.

Operating with a yearly grant of $100,000, Bronx NHS has managed to deliver these substantial benefits with a total grant funding of $700,000 over seven years. Their consistent support and trusted, professional service make them a cornerstone of financial health and asset-building for Bronx residents.

Bronx NHS's continued dedication to providing free, high-quality tax preparation services underscores its commitment to the community, ensuring more New Yorkers can take advantage of crucial tax credits and improve their financial well-being.
